Our People Who Work Across 2 Schools

Laura Merrick
Deputy Principal & Faith Leader

Hello Everyone!

My name is Laura and I am so excited to be joining St Gabriel’s and St Stephen’s One Heart Learning Community. I love learning and I know that I will be inspired everyday by the passionate teachers, students and parents in our vibrant learning community.

Diversity and inclusion create rich communities and I look forward to hearing your story and developing strong relationships with you all. Through dialogue, collaboration and reflection, I hope to support all members of our learning community to Grow, to Innovate and to Influence so that we can reach our full potential as individuals and as a One Heart Community.

St Gabriel and St Stephen were both such important messengers, bringing the story of Jesus Christ to their community and facing the challenges of their time with courage and compassion. I look forward to learning from all members in our faith community and working in solidarity for the good of all people.

I am married to Dan and we have 3 beautiful and energetic sons, Ben, Ollie and Zach who bring us such joy! We love spending time outdoors, at the beach or in the bush where we can connect wth each other and enjoy the beauty of the world that we live in.

I am so very excited to be the Lead Principal of St Gabriel's and St Stephen's. I am passionate about a new way of education, one that is firmly held by children and driven by growth for all. I think we have amazing schools - our educators are passionate and loving, our families are so supportive and our children teach us new ways constantly.

I am dedicated to ensuring we acknowledge and learn from First Nation peoples, our place of Reservoir, our Parish and our children.  I love learning about our families, their stories, their faith and the many languages that join our community.

When I am not at school I am finishing my Phd and spending time with my family. Often we are found at the netball court, footy field, on our bikes or at our happy place Bright in our caravan.

Jarryd Bradford

Deputy Principal

Learning & Teaching Coach

Hello! I am fortunate to be joining the Reservoir Community at St Gabriel’s and St Stephen’s for 2022.  I was born in New Zealand and moved here in 2020. I’ve grown to love Melbourne and the shared similarities with NZ, however the weather is a lot better here believe it or not.  I now call Melbourne my home away from home.

As an educator, I aim to empower children for a future that requires them to be creative thinkers, collaborative, empathetic and mindful, faith-filled, and optimistic of the world around them.

Leading Learning and Teaching means working closely with educators across both schools developing best practices and thriving learning environments.

Numeracy Intervention

My name is Jackie and I am the Prep teacher at St Stephen’s School. Teaching has been a very rewarding career for me, the children I have taught, their wonderful families and the school communities I have been part of have brought me many happy times. Good teaching and learning is built on the foundation of strong relationships.

Creating an environment where learners experience trust, respect and kindness allows them to flourish. I feel very fortunate that as a teacher I have been able to build relationships with students and families and form strong friendships with colleagues. ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is a wonderful saying and I know that as parents, you entrust your precious children to us in the hope that together we will raise happy, resilient, kind and respectful children who are ready to be the best they can be in today’s challenging world.

Physical Education

Hi there, I’m Maddy and I’m very excited to be a part of the One Heart community as the Physical Education teacher! My passion for sport began in my own primary school years through a love of Taekwondo and basketball. Since then I have been fortunate enough to be involved in supporting and developing a passion for health and fitness in other people’s lives with over 10 years experience in coaching and teaching roles.

I strive to inspire children to enjoy and prioritise movement in their lives, to make connections with others through sport and to have fun and value fair play.

I spend most of my spare time training at taekwondo, muay thai or at the gym! If not I'll be playing fetch with my beautiful Australian Cattle Dog, Archie or baking up a storm in the kitchen!

My favourite thing about teaching is learning! My journey as a primary educator began 20 years ago working across numerous schools and in different educational settings. My experience has been largely within the Early Years with a profound interest in Literacy and Numeracy. I thrive on providing students with positive learning experiences to assist them in developing confidence, raised levels of self-esteem and a love of learning.

Outside of teaching,  my family and I enjoy visiting local cafes and going for walks with our dog  Pepe. I am blessed with two wonderful  boys who enjoy playing soccer and music. My husband and I spend most weekends at soccer pitches supporting and cheering on our boys.

Teresa Di Giulio
Italian Specialist

My name is Teresa Di Giulio
I am so pleased and happy to have joined the One Heart Family at St Gabriel's Primary School this term as the Italian teacher.
As a native speaker and having resided in Italy for twenty years I am passionate about the language and the teaching of Italian.
My immersion in the culture and language of Italy has given me an authentic understanding and appreciation of the importance of teaching children languages and about different cultures. My experience in Italy has provided me with a 'real' experience that I believe can have an influence on my students. For me it is rewarding and fulfilling to watch these younger learners embrace the language as much as I love teaching it.
